Quick answer

Handover is complete when the owner can identify the approved room modes, name trained operators, locate the selected-system instructions and report a problem without improvising a repair. Demonstrate the actual wall in its own room under the installer’s guidance, record any outstanding item and protect the finished surfaces. A photograph can show a room state, but it is not an operating instruction for a different mechanism.

Demonstrate both room states

Begin in the closed position. Ask the installer to explain which panel is first, how the selected system secures the final closure and what the owner should inspect before a room is occupied. Then observe the approved transition to the open position and note the parking location. The operator should see where every panel remains supported along the connected overhead track, including any turn into the stack.

Record who is authorised to move the wall and when the room must be clear. The exact handle, release, carrier and seal procedure depends on the supplied configuration. Use the supplier’s approved instructions and supervised training rather than a generic sequence copied from another project. If the demonstration cannot reach a planned room state smoothly, keep the issue open for the installer.

Partly open movable partition panels in a meeting room

This real meeting-room image shows several panels separated along an overhead route. It illustrates an open room state for discussion; it does not show the full operating sequence or permit a user to infer how its carrier works.

Leave a pack the next operator can use

The owner needs more than a commissioning sign-off. Keep the approved as-built plan, selected-system operating instructions, panel identification, care guidance, warranty and service contact in a location staff can find. Add a short room-specific sheet naming the parking position, authorised operators and the route for reporting an abnormal condition. Version the pack when the wall or nearby room is changed.

A pass door, if supplied, has its own operating and access considerations. Note its location, hardware and any project-specific egress requirement on the handover drawing. The visible presence of a door does not confirm that it meets a particular code or fire strategy; the responsible project team must verify those requirements against approved documents.

Closed movable partition with a visible pass door and handle

The genuine completed-wall photograph shows a visible pass door and handle. It is useful for locating the door in an owner walk-through, not for claiming a locking, escape or acoustic function that the photograph cannot establish.

Separate observation from service work

Operators can report a new noise, unusual movement, damaged face or visible seal change. They should record when and where it occurred, isolate the affected use according to site procedure and contact the responsible maintenance party. Technical adjustment, carrier work and concealed track inspection belong to trained personnel following the selected-system instructions. Do not force a reluctant panel or substitute a generic lubricant.

Agree the inspection and service intervals from the actual supplier documents and local usage, rather than promising a universal maintenance schedule. A heavily used conference room and an occasional ballroom divider can have different conditions. Keep each inspection, adjustment and replacement in a dated service record so the next operator knows what changed.

Protect the room and finish after installation

Handover often occurs while other trades are still working. Inspect both wall faces, edges, door and the area where panels park; record any mark or incomplete finish before responsibility transfers. Establish who removes remaining protection and who keeps carts, furniture or temporary storage away from the route. A clean operational path is part of the room plan.

Movable partition panels at a construction site before cleanup

This real site photograph shows a completed-looking panel line while equipment and debris remain nearby. It illustrates why final cleaning and an agreed snag record matter; it should not be presented as a finished handover condition.

Use the approved finish care instructions for cleaning. A surface that resembles wood, fabric or paint in a photograph may have a different actual face material. Avoid specifying detergents or repair methods from appearance alone. Keep a reference to the approved finish and supplier advice for future touch-ups or replacement discussions.

Frequently asked questions

Is a short demonstration enough for every operator?

Name the staff who were trained, record the actual room states demonstrated and keep the selected-system instructions available for later operators.

May staff move a panel that resists?

Stop and use the site fault route. Do not force it or attempt an unapproved adjustment; have the responsible trained party inspect the condition.

Does a visible pass door establish an egress rating?

No. The project team must verify the approved door configuration and applicable egress and fire requirements separately.

How often should the wall be serviced?

Use the supplied system guidance and actual usage to plan inspections. A single universal interval is not a reliable project instruction.

What should stay on the snag list?

Any unresolved operation, finish, door, seal, route or documentation issue should have an owner and a dated closeout record.

Close with a witnessed handover

Walk the room with the installer, operator and project representative. Confirm the accepted room modes, collect the signed snag record, then provide the as-built documents and contacts to the owner. EBUNGE can help identify the documents relevant to a selected system when the order and installation information are supplied. The operable partition range and resource centre offer context, but they do not replace the specific handover pack.
